Rainstorm Kills Two, Destroys Over 50 Homes in Kaduna Community

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

A rainstorm has killed two people and destroyed more than 50 houses in Dokan Mai-Jama’a village, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The village head, Alhaji Hamisu Tukur, confirmed the incident in a report monitored on Radio Nigeria Kaduna, stating that dozens of homes were severely affected.

Residents said the storm, accompanied by strong winds, began around 6:41 p.m. on Monday and lasted about 40 minutes, causing widespread damage. A correspondent who visited the area reported that several families have been displaced, with many homes either completely destroyed or partially damaged. Affected residents were seen seeking temporary shelter as they coped with the aftermath. Community members have appealed to the Kaduna State Government, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the State Emergency Management Agency for urgent assistance.

In a related development, the storm also impacted parts of Sabon Gero and Millennium City in the same local government area, where several houses and perimeter fences were damaged. Eyewitnesses said the rainfall also disrupted traffic, blocking a major road and forcing motorists to take alternative routes. Meanwhile, the National Emergency Management Agency in Kaduna has deployed a team to assess the extent of the damage.
