The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Delta State has elected new executives to lead the party, as members pledged to strengthen its structure ahead of the 2027 general elections. The delegates’ congress, held in Asaba, was attended by party leaders, stakeholders, and observers, including officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies.
All positions were filled unopposed through a voice vote. Chairman of the electoral committee, Kingsley Okafor, said the exercise followed the dissolution of the party’s caretaker committee and approval by members for a fresh congress.
Party leaders who addressed the gathering said the NDC aims to provide alternative policy directions on issues such as insecurity and economic challenges. A former Delta State governorship candidate in the 2023 election, Ken Pela, described recent developments within the party as part of efforts to reposition it for future elections. He said members are focused on building a platform that responds to public concerns.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected state chairman, Angiamaowei Richman Oyindoubra, said the executives would work to unite members and prepare the party for the 2027 polls. “We have been given a mandate to serve and to strengthen the party for future elections,” he said. Other speakers at the event expressed commitment to mobilising support and expanding the party’s presence across the state.
