Anambra Imposes Movement Restriction for LG Poll on Saturday

The Anambra State government has announced a restriction of movement across the state in preparation for the local government elections scheduled for Saturday.

In a press statement issued on Friday, the state Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, said the restriction will be enforced from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2024.

Mefor explained that the measure is aimed at ensuring a smooth and peaceful election process.

“Ndi Anambra are hereby informed that there will be a restriction of movement throughout Anambra State on Saturday, 28th September 2024, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., as requested by the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC),” the statement read.

The commissioner clarified that certain individuals would be exempted from the restriction, including those on election duties and essential services, such as ANSIEC officials, electoral observers, accredited journalists, ambulances responding to emergencies, and firefighters.

Mefor urged all residents to comply with the order for the sake of peace and warned that failure to do so would result in legal consequences.
