Anambra Police Apprehend Four Suspects Linked to Killing of Community Leader

The Anambra State Police Command has officially announced the arrest of four individuals suspected of involvement in the murder of Chief Silas Onyima, the President-General of Umuoji community in Idemili North Local Government Area.

According to a statement released by the police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, on Tuesday, the suspects were apprehended by police detectives collaborating with Umuoji vigilante members.

Chief Onyima was tragically killed in his residence last Friday when assailants attacked him. Reports indicate that the perpetrators shot him while he was in the bathroom, after subjecting him to multiple machete wounds.

The police spokesperson mentioned that the suspects were found in possession of the deceased’s mobile phone and ATM card. Additionally, during interrogation, they implicated four other accomplices who are currently being pursued by law enforcement.

CP Aderemi Adeoye, the Commissioner of Police, who was away on official duties in Ibadan, promptly returned upon learning of the incident to oversee the investigation. He commended the collaborative efforts of the police in Ogidi and Umuoji Vigilante for swiftly apprehending the suspects.

Furthermore, CP Adeoye has instructed the State Criminal Investigation Department to dispatch its forensic team to the crime scene and assume control of the investigation. He has also tasked the Homicide Team at the State CID with apprehending the remaining four fugitives and determining the motive behind the heinous act.

The Commissioner assured community leaders across the state of the Police’s commitment to their safety, emphasizing their crucial role in governance through their representation of their communities in town unions.
