The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has distributed mechanised farm equipment and improved seedlings to dry-season farmers in Pankshin and Kanke Local Government Areas of Plateau State to support food production.
Represented by his aide, Sunday Bugama, Yilwatda said during the handover in Pankshin that the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at strengthening agriculture and improving food security.
The items distributed include 88 solar-powered water pumps, seven mobile water pumps, one mini tractor, two diesel-powered tractors, 500 bags of improved rice seedlings, 50 knapsack sprayers, 10 brush cutters, 100 overalls and 40 pairs of rain boots.
Bugama said the intervention focuses on tomato and vegetable farmers while introducing improved rice seedlings to encourage crop diversification. He added that similar programmes have been implemented in several northern states.“
Our goal is to improve rural livelihoods through targeted agricultural support,” he said.Chairman of Tomato and Vegetable Farmers in Pankshin and Kanke, Sudan Ishaku Wulmina, described the intervention as timely. He said the support would help smallholder farmers increase productivity.
Wulmina added that farmer groups in the area had previously received financial support distributed as revolving loans, benefiting hundreds of farmers across the communities.
