The All Progressives Congress (APC) has addressed the recent appearance of a billboard in Abuja that promotes President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election.
The billboard, prominently displayed at the Area One axis of the Federal Capital Territory, features the message: “Grassroots support for Tinubu 2027, the 1019 initiative,” accompanied by images of President Tinubu and his wife, Oluremi Tinubu. The display has sparked widespread discussions and debates.
Responding to the situation, Bala Ibrahim, the APC National Publicity Director, clarified that the party is not responsible for the billboard campaign. Ibrahim acknowledged the billboard’s existence but emphasized that the APC had no prior knowledge of it. He suggested that the campaign could be the work of independent groups or individuals who support the President.
“At the party and personal level, I am not aware. If you have seen it, you may wish to check. It could have been done by a group or individuals,” Ibrahim explained in a statement to Punch.
Ibrahim also noted that billboards typically include information about their sponsors. He implied that if the billboard lacks official APC identification, it is not an initiative from the party itself.
President Tinubu is currently in his second year of a four-year term and has not yet announced any official plans to seek re-election in 2027.
