APC Governorship Primary: Oborevwori’s Emergence Reward for Performance, Says Delta Speaker Guwor

By Anne Azuka
Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has described the emergence of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as the sole governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 election as a reflection of his performance in office.
Guwor made the remarks on Thursday after casting his vote during the APC governorship primary in Gbaramatu Ward 4, saying the governor’s affirmation was earned through “performance and people-oriented leadership.”
According to a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nkem Nwaeke, the Speaker described the exercise as “not just a primary, but a coronation of performance.”
He said Oborevwori’s emergence as the party’s sole candidate was a reward for what he called three years of impactful governance, visible infrastructure projects and inclusive leadership across Delta State.
Guwor, who also chairs the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, stated that the governor’s decision to align Delta State politically with the APC had strengthened unity among political leaders in the state and created a more coordinated platform for governance.
He expressed confidence that a second term for Oborevwori would consolidate ongoing development efforts.
“The overwhelming support for His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, at the primaries reflected the confidence of party faithful in the administration’s track record,” Guwor said.
“In the last three years, the administration has demonstrated what it means to govern with focus and sincerity. The results speak for themselves. That is why the APC has spoken with one voice,” he added.
The Speaker also spoke on his own affirmation in Warri South-West on Wednesday, describing it as an indication of grassroots support and confidence in his representation.
He said the exercise was peaceful and orderly, adding that it reinforced his commitment to service delivery and accountability in the constituency.
“My affirmation 24 hours ago was also about the will of our people and the unity of our party in Warri South-West. Party faithful across the constituency came out and spoke clearly. It is a call for more service with humility and accountability,” he said.
Guwor urged APC members in the state to sustain the unity displayed during the primaries and mobilise support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He maintained that the governor had laid a strong foundation for development and called on party faithful to build on the progress already recorded.
“Delta is stronger when we speak with one voice, and that is what we have done,” he stated.

Kefas Urges Church Leaders to Defend Truth and Promote Peace in Taraba
By Aga Samuel Imoter, Jalingo
Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has urged Christian leaders to defend truth, speak to political authorities when necessary and promote peace and moral values amid the social, economic and security challenges facing the country. Kefas made the call on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, while addressing participants at the Ministers’ Conference organised by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Taraba State Chapter, in Jalingo.
The conference, themed “The Church and the State: Partners in God’s Plan in a Changing World,” brought together Christian ministers and leaders to discuss the role of the Church in nation-building, peacebuilding and good governance. The governor said government and the Church have distinct constitutional and spiritual responsibilities but could collaborate in areas that promote peace, development and social stability.
He urged Christian leaders to uphold truth, compassion, justice and moral discipline while advising political authorities without allowing partisan interests to compromise the Church’s independence. “The Church must not become an extension of any political party,” Kefas said, urging ministers to provide constructive guidance and resist divisions based on politics, ethnicity or personal interests.
Kefas also called on religious leaders to use their platforms to discourage corruption, drug abuse, violence, hatred and injustice, while encouraging young people to pursue legitimate opportunities. He assured residents that his administration would continue to promote fairness, justice and peaceful coexistence while protecting citizens’ rights and freedom of worship.
The governor also expressed readiness to deepen collaboration with religious institutions in education, peacebuilding, community development and efforts to address drug abuse. He appealed to citizens and religious leaders to embrace unity and forgiveness, saying the development of Taraba required collective responsibility.
