By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna
A coalition of support groups of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the North East has chided the Director of Public Affairs and Chief spokesman of Tinubu/Shetima Presidential Campaign Council, Festus Keyamo warning him to stop inciting party members against each other using religion.
The State Coordinator of the Coalition Support Groups, Hon. Khaleel Sajoh, Adamawa expressed this on behalf of the sister groups in a statement issued in the state.
He drew the attention of the Presidential Campaign Council and the leadership of their party to the divisive and diversionary statement in circulation by the spokesman of the Presidential Campaign team against the people of Adamawa State.
“We read with deep shame, the unfortunate statement by Mr. Keyamo that is highly uncalled for at this critical time when our party needs all hands on deck for the success of 2023 general elections.
“Keyamo said, ‘APC gave two Christians the office of the SGF, from Adamawa State, yet the 2019 election was lost. That religion will not decide votes, it is our programmes that will convince people”. The statement read
The statement made it clear to Keyamo that the record is there for all who care to know that sons and daughters from Adamawa State, most especially, former SGF Babachir Lawal and the current SGF, Barr. Boss Mustapha were instrumental and deeply part of the history of the formation and success of the APC in the country.
The statement reads in parts, “As keen observers of Nigerian politics and also members of the APC whose efforts were part of the winning history of APC in both 2015 and 2019 will never be beaten in the game of politics because we are fully ready to once again deliver APC as we did in 2015 and other elections.
“He could have acknowledged our efforts and the efforts of our stakeholders in 2015 first; for working tireless in making sure that APC won Adamawa State despite the facts that PDP presidential candidate was from Adamawa State in 2019 election, yet our party faithful worked with strict adherence towards the success of President Muhammadu Buhari and APC.
“Therefore at this critical time where the party is working on uniting its members to face 2023 elections such words coming from the spokesman of the PCC on our stakeholders is not only unhealthy but condemnable.
“We are not going to tolerate it because politics is not about frequent noise making or buying space in media houses and social media; attacking and abusing personalities who sacrificed their lives and everything for the success of the party and the unity of the nation at large which Keyamo is now enjoying almost free.
“Finally, we as Coalition of APC Support Groups, Adamawa State chapter are not happy with the statements in circulation on our leaders.
“The statement is unworthy and we call for its retraction. We are working on how to win the 2023 elections. We are also assuring the Presidential Campaign Council and the leadership of APC that the stakeholders of APC in Adamawa State are fully on the ground to deliver the party and its candidates.
“We also wish to appreciate the efforts of Barr. Boss Mustaphaa, the SGF for his unreserved support to the party and loyalty to the Government of President Muhammadu Buhari.”
