APGA Releases Timetable for 2026 Anambra LG Primaries

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has released its provisional timetable for the 2026 local government primary elections in Anambra State, ahead of the council polls scheduled for Saturday, August 29, 2026.

In a statement on Thursday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ejimofor Opara, said the timetable was approved in line with APGA’s constitution and the schedule issued by the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC).

According to the party, the sale and submission of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms will run from January 27 to February 6 at APGA’s Awka Regional Secretariat.

Screening of chairmanship and councillorship aspirants is scheduled for February 7 to 11 across the state’s 21 local government areas and 326 wards. Appeals from the screening will be considered on February 13.

Ward congresses to elect councillorship candidates and ad hoc delegates will hold on February 14, while the chairmanship primary election is fixed for February 15. Appeals arising from the primaries will be handled on February 16, all in Awka.

Opara said chairmanship nomination forms will cost ₦6 million, while councillorship forms are priced at ₦600,000. He added that female aspirants and persons with disabilities will pay 50 per cent of the stipulated fees, noting that all payments are non-refundable and subject to review if dates are adjusted.

ANSIEC had earlier announced that the local government elections will be held across Anambra’s 21 local government areas on August 29, 2026, with party primaries running from December 18, 2025, to February 16, 2026.
