The Arewa for Justice Assembly (AFOJA) has condemned the continued detention of Bello Badejo by the Nigerian military, calling it unconstitutional, illegal, and a violation of his human rights.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Comrade Musa Garba Yola, AFOJA’s leader, expressed outrage over the military’s actions, emphasizing that Bello’s detention is an abuse of power. Yola said the ongoing detention is causing immense trauma to his family and damaging the Nigerian military’s reputation.
Bello Badejo, who was initially detained for six months without charges and later cleared of all accusations, suffers from severe health issues. Yola pointed out that despite his fragile health, which required medical treatment in Egypt, the military rearrested him on his cattle farm. His wife revealed that Bello was under medication at the time of his unlawful detention.
Yola described the military’s actions as a blatant disregard for constitutional provisions, noting that detaining a citizen without charges or access to the courts is unacceptable in a democratic society.
The Arewa for Justice Assembly is calling for the immediate and unconditional release of Bello Badejo, as well as his reunion with his family, who have been emotionally and psychologically distressed by the military’s actions.
The group also seeks the intervention of relevant authorities to ensure justice prevails, asserting that this matter is not just about Bello Badejo but about upholding justice, fairness, and the rule of law in Nigeria.
