Alleges Yorubanising

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

A front- line northern group, Arewa Youth Forum (AYF), has described as unacceptable, the dimension in which the appointments being made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is taking, describing it as Yorubanization

The group expressed this in a terse statement issued in Kaduna yesterday, signed by its President, Ahmed Mohammed Zagi.

“We have watched with reservations, the trend which is becoming a norm of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s choice for replacements in Federal appointments being made, with all the positions perceived to be juicy, being handed to his kinsmen.

“This is totally unnaceptable in a diverse and multi- ethnic country like ours, as it may further lead to dividing the country along ethnic lines,” the statement said

AYF pointed out that only on Thursday October 12, Tinubu appointed Mr. Olu Olukoyede as the chairman of anti graft agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), a position that was hitherto held by a Northerner, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa.

“Other examples of such one sided appointments includes that of replacing the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) boss, Mohammed Nami also a Northerner, with his kinsman, Mr. Zacch Adedeji.

“Similarly, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) embattled Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele was replaced with Yemi Cardoso, another Yoruba man.

“Same can be said of the Nigeria Customs Service, where Colonel Hamid Ali (rtd) was replaced with Comptroller General Bashir Adeniyi,” they said.

The group tasked Tinubu to focus on ways to unite the country, rather than creating avenue for mutual suspicion, which such appointments could cause.
