Trouble has again greeted Nigeria brewery company, NBC, plc, as Arewa Youth Movement for Good Governance, AYMGG, has called on Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir Ahmed El-rufai, to as a matter of urgency set up a probe committee to arrest the toxic odor caused by the company in kaduna.
The group expressed dissatisfaction over the air pollution emanating from the company’s production process in a Press statement.
The statement which was signed by the Chairman of the group, Ahmodu Ibrahim and issued to newsmen in Kaduna stated that the host communities have suffered neglect from the company.
Daybreak recalls that a similar group recently issued quit notice to the company to quit kaduna or face their wrath but NBC allegedly bribed their way with hundreds of thousands of naira by the Management of the company.
In the recent outcry to the government of Kaduna state, the group, in a statement, said they can no longer fold their hands and allow innocent people die of toxic odour.
According to the statement, “Since December 2018, the residents of Makera area have being exposed to toxic odor, several complain have being made, but to no avail.
“Pursuant to the above we have written a petition to the Kaduna State House of Assembly and they have vowed to take serious steps to save the precious lives of Kaduna People.
“As if that is not enough, the Nigerian Breweries plc in Kaduna State under the management of Mr. Abbey Ajayi introduce tribalism in the company, making it difficult for Kaduna indigenes to get even industrial trainee from the company, not to talk of NYSC, jobs and contracts. However 80 percent of Breweries personnel are South Westerners. A few Kaduna indigenes face humiliation especially with the Brewery Manager’s wife Mrs Ajayi as she slaps them publicly when they offends her.
“We have also gotten intelligence report that whereas all corps members posted to Nigerian Breweries where rejected, the Brewery Manager Mr. Abbey Ajayi brought his girl friend to serve in the company.
“We challenge NB Plc to a debate in NUJ Kaduna on staff employed, why they don’t take Kaduna IT students and to furnish the Council with a list of their contractors.
“We therefore call on Kaduna State Government, the Kaduna State Assembly and all well meaning Nigerians to rise and save Kaduna people”.
The group equally demanded that Kaduna Indigenes must be respected and valued in the company.
Arewa Youth further stressed that their IT students and corps members should be accommodated and that credible contractors from Northern Nigeria must also be given contracts without any sentiment.
