Army Charges Social Media Influencers To Be Fair, Truthful And Demonstrate Sense Of National Security In Their Reportage On Social Media Space

The Nigerian Army has charged Social media influencers to uphold fairness, truthfulness and sense of national security in their reportage or posts on the social media space.

This was contained in a charge,by the chief of civilian military affairs,Major General MG Kangye, at the 13th edition of the Social Media Influencers Seminar held in Jalingo, Taraba State capital.

Organised by the Nigerian Army Department of Civil-military Affairs in partnership with Security Affairs, to serve as a platform to interact, discuss and share ideas on how better bloggers, on-line journalists and social media influencers can exhibit patriotism and continue to promote peace and security in Nigeria.

The event,which started in 2018 in Portharcourt, is being rotated across the various states of the federation.

An initiative of the then Chief of Army Staff, Ambassador Tukur Buratai and being sustained by the current Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, has gone a long way sensitising and winning the hearts and minds of the civil populace.

It’s a forum for disseminating the activities and success of the Nigerian Army to the general public.

The chief of civil military affairs, Maj Gen MG Kangye, was represented by Brig Gen IG Lassa, Director of Psychological Warfare, DCMA, who charged the Social Media Influencers to continue to be patriotic in their posts and reportage across Social media space, stressing that the essence of the seminar is to interact, discuss and share ideas on how better to continue to promote peace and security in Nigeria.

“The social media have a very crucial role to play in the success of the Nigerian Army operations”.

In an interview with the CEO of Security Affairs, the co-organiser of the Social Media seminar, Amb. Austin, said this initiative started in 2018 in order to continuously engage, bloggers, online journalists and social media influencers on their strategic role in promoting peace and security in Nigeria knowing fully well that, whatever they post on-line can either promote peace or have a negative effect on national security.

Also, the Resource Persons: Mrs Sheba Tayo-Garbson Head of Department Mass Communication Federal Polytechnic Nekede, and Hon. Nelson Len the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Taraba State Governor and President of Taraba State Bloggers Association jointly educated the participants on their important role in the society and how well they can manage this role in upholding the truth, fairness and national security.
