A combined team of the Nigerian Army and the police are said to be engaged in a gun battle with suspected members of a Boko Haram cell in Sabo Gida and Gaate areas of Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa state.
The Boko Haram cell which is said to have its operational base in the Sabo Gida area of the local government was said to have been operating in the area for a long time, mainly engaged in kidnappings and armed robbery.
According to a source who spoke with daybreak, the cell was raided by a combine team of the Nigeria Army, Police and Local Vigilantes few days ago and several of the suspects were killed, while many others were arrested and some got away. Their resident was burnt down and a woman said to a wife to one of the sect member was also killed.
Over the weekend, however, the sect members regrouped and stormed Sabon Gida. They kidnapped the Mai-Angwan of the area around their former residence. The sect members reportedly accused him of giving information about them to security operatives.
Between yesterday Monday and today there have been exchange of gun fire between the Boko Haram members and the Nigerian Army. The sect members who are said to be in their numbers have reportedly being going around the communities around Sabo Gida and Gaate searching for those who they suspect of giving information about them to the army and police.
Attempts to get the reaction of the Army spokesman over the developing story has so far nit yielded result.
