French football expert Matt Spiro has praised **Mikel Arteta’s role in Okocha’s success at PSG**, highlighting how Arteta’s contributions helped the Nigerian star thrive during their time together at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). Spiro explained that Arteta, on loan from Barcelona during the 2001-2002 season, was instrumental in supporting Okocha’s creativity on the field.

Arteta’s tactical awareness and work ethic provided a solid platform for attacking players like Okocha to flourish. Spiro noted that Arteta’s role in midfield, under the guidance of coach Luis Fernandez, allowed him to simplify play and connect with more creative talents.

“Fernandez asked Arteta to play simply and give creative freedom to players like Okocha, and he carried it out brilliantly,” Spiro told BBC Sport. Despite being young, Arteta showcased a strong tactical understanding, helping PSG create a dynamic and effective team environment.

Arteta, who made 53 appearances for PSG, will face his former club as Arsenal’s manager in their upcoming UEFA Champions League match at the Emirates. Meanwhile, Okocha, who played 113 games for PSG, became a fan favorite before moving to Bolton Wanderers in the Premier League.

The Gunners aim to secure their first win in the group stage after a draw against Atalanta in their opening match.
