Ask Governors to Secure, Protect Their State. Olokoba Advises Tinubu On Gumi and National Security

Comrade Razaq Olokoba, an activist, Convener of Campaign for Dignity in Governance and Coalition of 70 Civil Society Organisations, has advised President Boal Tinubu on measures to take against the spate of insecurity across Nigeria.
Olokoba’s made known his thought in a piece.
The piece reads: That Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi Gumi, can work with state government does not make it compulsory for him to as well works with the federal government, especially on the hydra-headed security crisis in the country.
Considering the burgeoning security challenges faced by the country for around a decade so far, the president, as a matter of urgency, needs to give complete approval for state layer of security institution, as the refusal to pay ransom to kidnappers who are currently on rampage in the country may end up making them more defiant, with the Nigerian public rising to compel the federal government to rescind the decision, as that would seemingly aid the release of victims. So adequate measure needs to back the decision to assuage the tension among the citizens.
Furthermore, additional special security strategy should be built around all soft targets in the states with high level of insecurity, which targets mostly students, National Youth Service Corps, NYSC members, farmers, etc. in the next one year when a new layer of security will be put in place.
The president and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces needs to emphasise the need for governors to take charge of their states as they understand the peculiarities of their various state better.
In this light, Governors Babagana Zulum of Borno, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos and and few other states, methinks, stand out as good examples.
Also, more emphasis should be laid on the need for the long-debated issue of State Police. The National Assembly has to rise to the occasion by heeding to the yearnings of Nigerians in this regard in order to check the rising cases of extra-judicial killings, kidnappings and gun-running by non-state actors.
Taking up this challenge with relieving measures for the safety of the citizenry and their property, as a matter of fact, will surely ostracise the minds of purveyors and beneficiaries of these crises who believe the government can only work when they are in the picture as unsolicited mediators.
