Tension rises in Imo State as unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle assassinate Chiedoziem Anyanwu, the ward chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Ife/Akpodim/Chokoneze ward within the Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area. Anyanwu was fatally shot on Thursday at his residence in the presence of his wife.
According to reports, the assailants specifically mentioned Anyanwu’s name upon arrival, indicating a targeted attack. The motive behind the killing remains unclear, leaving PDP members in the state uneasy.
Lancelot Obiaku, the Director General of the New Media of the PDP in the state, confirmed the tragic incident. He called for the swift arrest and prosecution of the fleeing suspects, urging authorities to take immediate action.
When approached for comment, the state police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, stated that he had not received information about the incident. Okoye assured that he would make inquiries and provide updates as soon as possible.
The assassination adds to the growing concerns about political violence and security in the region. Authorities are expected to investigate the incident thoroughly to apprehend those responsible and prevent further escalation of tensions.
