ASUU, Federal Government Meeting Rescheduled to August 28

The meeting between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), originally planned for today, has been postponed.

ASUU President Emmanuel Osodeke confirmed the postponement on Monday, stating that the meeting, which was previously announced by the Minister of Education last Friday, will no longer take place as scheduled. The meeting is now set for Wednesday, August 28.

No reason was provided for the change in schedule.

ASUU has been at odds with the Federal Government over several unresolved issues. During its national executive council meeting at the University of Ibadan on August 19, 2024, ASUU resolved to go on a nationwide strike if the government does not fulfill the terms of a renegotiated 2009 agreement.

Among ASUU’s demands are better welfare for lecturers, increased university funding, and a halt to the unchecked establishment of new universities across Nigeria.
