ATBUTH Bauchi Reduces Kidney Dialysis Cost by 70%

By Abigail Philip David

The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi has slashed the cost of kidney dialysis by 70%, significantly easing the financial burden on patients with kidney-related conditions.

The hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Usman Koli, announced the development in a press release on Wednesday, explaining that the cost per session has been reduced from ₦40,000 to an affordable ₦12,000.

Relief for Patients
Koli noted that this move was initiated to address the financial difficulties faced by patients requiring regular dialysis.

“The Chief Medical Director, Professor Yusuf Bara, expressed optimism about the program’s impact. The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has ensured the availability of consumables in large quantities and also provided a new dialysis machine to support the hospital’s efforts,” Koli stated.

He emphasized that this initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to improving access to quality healthcare, particularly in challenging economic times.

Positive Outcomes and Future Plans
Koli
revealed that more than 45 patients have already benefited from the subsidized services, which align with the hospital’s mission to deliver affordable, high-quality care.

“We remain dedicated to collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to sustain and expand similar programs, ensuring all citizens benefit,” he added.

Patients’ Reactions
Expressing gratitude for the intervention, Magaji Galadima, a kidney patient at the hospital, described the program as life-changing.

“This initiative has brought hope to many of us who couldn’t afford treatment before. It’s truly transformative,” Galadima said.

The price reduction highlights ATBUTH’s commitment to making healthcare accessible and alleviating the challenges faced by patients battling chronic illnesses.
