Atiku congratulates governors on Supreme Court victory

Former Vice President and 2023 Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, congratulated governors whose election victories were affirmed by the Supreme Court, including Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Caleb Muftwang (Plateau), and Abba Yusuff (Kano).

In a statement from his media office, Atiku expressed readiness to lead a coalition of opposition parties against the All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasizing the need for a united front to counteract any drift toward a one-party system. He highlighted the APC’s impact on democracy, stating, “If we don’t come together to challenge what the ruling party is trying to create, our democracy will suffer for it.”

Atiku, who recently proposed a merger of opposition parties, saw the Supreme Court’s decision as a victory for democracy. He congratulated governors of PDP and New Nigeria Peoples Party, urging them to view the verdict as an opportunity to strengthen good governance. With the election phase concluded, Atiku affirmed the PDP’s commitment to its role as the major opposition party in the country.
