Leading opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, gathered on Tuesday at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, for the unveiling of a new opposition coalition.
Other notable politicians at the event included former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai; ex-Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi; Senator Dino Melaye; former Minister of Youth and Sports Solomon Dalung; PDP chieftain and publisher Dele Momodu; Senators Gabriel Suswam and Ireti Kingibe of the Labour Party; former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Emeka Ihedioha; and retired Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.
The coalition, which brings together members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and other political groups, is rallying under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.
Former Senate President David Mark, who recently left the PDP, is expected to head the media conference as the interim national chairman of the ADC. Former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola has been appointed interim national secretary of the coalition-backed ADC.
