No food for South West until Fulani are safe – Miyetti Allah

Coordinator of the Kwara State chapter of Miyetti Allah Association of Cattle Breeders, Aliyu Mohammed, has said that the blockade of cattle and foodstuffs to the South West through Kwara State will continue until the safety of Fulani is guaranteed in the region.

Mohammed speaking to newsmen after a crucial meeting of the association in Ilorin on Sunday, said the action is a warning shot to ensure a peaceful operation of businesses by the Fulani and to end the harassment of the tribe in the south.

He also said not all Fulani are criminals, adding “Just as you have in any society where there are good and bad people.”

Mohammed insisted that “It is not only Fulanis that commit crimes in the country, but it was sad that everything happening now is heaped on Fulani herdsmen.”

The coordinator said the association was ready to fish out the bad eggs in their midst.

According to him, “We have concluded at our meeting today that anybody who comes to Kwara State claiming to be Fulani herder under questionable circumstances, will be reported to the security agencies for necessary action.

“Our vigilantes will monitor the bush and the forests where there are no security agencies and report suspected cattle rustlers who disguise as cattle herders to perpetrate crimes,” he added.

Mohammed appealed to the Federal government to arrest Sunday Igboho, who evicted the Fulani from Igangan in Ibarapa Local Government Area of Oyo State, for the alleged destruction of their properties and killing of their people.

He, however, commended Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for his statesmanship in accommodating and cooperating to ensure the safe landing of Fulanis in the state.

  • Governor Mohammed’s Commssioner calls Ortom an underperforming Governor

Governor Mohammed’s Commssioner calls Ortom an underperforming Governor

There is no end in sight in the war of words between the camps of Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State and Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State as a Commssioner in Mohammed’s cabinet, Hamisu Shira, has described Ortom as an underperforming Governor.

Shira, who was responding to comment by Ortom where he called Mohammed a terrorist. He believed Ortom was using his recent scathing comments to cover his failure as a minister and current governor of Benue State.

The former member of the National Assembly who currently serves as Commssioner for Environment and Housing in Bauchi State, said what senator Mohammed achieved in just two years in office as governor was by far two times better than what Ortom has done in Benue State for close to six years.

He made the remarks in an interview with journalists in Bauchi, saying Ortom has no moral justification to call Mohammed names as there is no development in Benue State under him.

“Even salary became a problem so much so that the workers protested and we saw where Ortom was attacked by his own people because of his inability to meet his constitutional responsibility,” Shira stated.

And for some of us who were in the National Assembly we know his relationship with senator George Akume. Senator Akume happens to be Ortom’s godfather. Ortom was a one time minister. Senator Bala Mohammed was also a one time senator and Minister.. For those who don’t know go to Abuja and check the records. Check their ministries, check their performance. You cannot compare what senator Bala Mohammed has achieved in Abuja as FCT minister with what Ortom has done. In fact, Ortom was removed during a reshufflmemt because of his non performance,” he added.

Shira said he was disappointment with the statement that came out of Ortom’s mouth in response to what governor Mohammed said about Fulani herdsmen should defend themselves from.rustlers.

“Ortom has a right as governor to protect not only the interest of his people but the interest of Nigeria. Mohammed is not a sectional leader and Mohammed is qualified to lead this country. So it is unfortunate that Ortom will make such a statement.

” If not that I am holding a position in Senator Mohammed’s government, I was in Abuja when both of them when they were both ministers and I was in Benue where l was conversant with the developments there and l know the politics that played out during the farmers-heeders clashes.

” Ortom only git reelection when he came to PDP and his people elected him and he was trying to bring confusion and used that issue as a cheap point for him to get reelected. His one people expected that he would redeem his image but unfortunately his performance became so poor that the people of Benue will tell you how his people are angry with him today. Senator Mohammed has done so well and we cannot compare him with Ortom, ” Shira said.

FCT Minister Charges AEPB, Others To Maintain High Level Of Sanitation Along Airport Road

The Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, has charged the Abuja Environmental Protection Board and other relevant agencies of the FCT Administration to ensure that the Umaru Musa Yar’adua way (Airport road) is kept clean at all times.

The Minister gave the charge over the weekend when he led a team of heads of relevant agencies to inspect and assess the level of sanitation on the road.

His Chief Press Secretary, Anthony Ogunleye, made this known in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

The statement read, “The visit with relevant agencies was to enable me to see progress on the instruction that pedestrian bridges are not to be used as markets and trading points.

“So far, I am pleased with the progress made and support from the communities along the Umar Yaradua (Airport) Express Way.”

  • Journalists are criminal reckless – Sheik Ahmad Gumi

Journalists are criminal reckless – Sheik Ahmad Gumi

The International Press Centre has dismissed the recent comment of Islamic cleric, Sheik Ahmad Gumi, that journalists are criminals as reckless.

Its Executive Director Lanre Arogundade said Gumi was setting a bad precedent with the comment.

He spoke on Arise TV The Morning Show monitored by The Nation on Monday.

The Nation had reported that Gumi described journalists as “criminals” for their consistent reporting of the activities of bandits and describing the outlaws as criminals.

He had said: “You are emphasising on criminality, I don’t know. Even the Press (journalists) are criminals too because they are putting oil into fire. These people are listening to you, don’t address them as criminals if you want them to succumb,” Sheikh Gumi said.

But Arogundade, while responding on why journalists have suddenly become the target of other people’s frustration, said: “Journalists are on the spot… first and foremost, there is a failure of leadership and my feeling is that, attempt is being made to blackmail the media to make it look like the media is ab initio the creator of the crisis or series of crises we have in the country.

“We might raise questions about our reporting but to make it look as if the media sat somewhere and created all these would be something that is totally out of place.

“This media bashing must stop…The media didn’t create these crises. Instead of solving these problems, all we have are statements from elected leaders of the country that are capable of further inflaming…

“One needs to totally condemn the statement of Sheikh Gumi saying journalists are criminals. I think he needs to re-substantiate this; he needs to be taken to chart over this reckless statement… It is a dangerous precedent, and a bad one and we demand a retraction.”

“On the other hand, it is also unimaginable that someone would wake up and say we should stop referring to bandits as ‘criminals’… This is an attempt to change the narrative.”

Arogundade admonished the media to raise its head above the line by ensuring professional and ethical reporting, understanding the concerns of conflict management and resolution and most importantly holding the leadership to account.

PDP acknowledges Bawa is first trained investigator to chair EFCC

The party stated this in a statement issued on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan.

PDP, while urging Bawa to avoid the pitfalls of his immediate predecessor, also advised the new Chairman to re-engineer and restore professionalism in the anti-graft agency.

Ologbondiyan urged Bawa not to succumb to pressures that may arise from politicians while he discharges his duty.

According to him, such tendencies have the capacity to erode professionalism in the Commission, and reduce the confidence the public imposed on it.

Ologbondiyan noted that the EFCC was established to fight corruption and not as a tool for oppression and intimidation of innocent Nigerians for political and other unjustified reasons.

“The PDP notes that for the first time, the Chairman of the EFCC is drawn from the pool of trained investigators of the commission.”

He also stated that Nigerians are looking up to the new EFCC boss to bring change to the Commission and restore professionalism in line with international standard

  • Some Nigerians Claimed I Had Stroke – Femi Adesina

Some Nigerians Claimed I Had Stroke – Femi Adesina

Femi Adesina, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, said some Nigerians love peddling evil reports about government officials and wish bad things happen to them in the course of their duty.

Adesina, who said this in his weekly article titled: ‘My $1.9 Billion In Minnesota Bank’, said some Nigerians had claimed he had developed stroke after a picture he took with a former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode surfaced online.

While saying life and health belongs to God, Adesina said his only response to those wishing to him stroke is ‘back to sender’.

He said: ” People love evil reports, particularly about those serving in government. Have we got so bad as a people, that we can’t have genuine, patriotic service again? Quite baffling.

“This leads me to a lie peddled about me from the pit of hell in the past fortnight. I had travelled to Umuahia, in Abia State, to deliver a paper at the Social Media Converge organized by the state government.

“At the Abuja airport, I had met former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, and we greeted pleasantly, as we always do. As we spoke, the former Minister’s aide took our photograph with his phone, which was later posted online.

“The camera angle was a bit awkward. My clothe seemed too baggy than it was, and my hand appeared twisted in the seemingly oversized sleeves.
“And what next? Some people subjected my arm and legs to photoshop, twisting them further, making me appear as a stroke patient. Father forgive them, for they know not what they do.

“Those who know me would testify that I like a good laugh. I laughed till my ribs ached, and I put my two feet up in the air. They were having a baleful ball, while I was having the time of my life.

“Life and health belong to God. And He has not denied me of that grace. Why then do the heathens rage, and the people imagine vain things? Let them continue to wail, and we will continue to laugh, and say: ‘back to sender.’

“Will Nigeria ever have people actuated by nothing other than patriotism to serve her? Not with the Ill-will often displayed to public officers. But for me, let them wail, while I spend my $1.9 billion.”
