Bandits Attack ECWA Church, Kill 5, Injure Others in Southern Kaduna

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

Heavily armed bandits have reportedly launched a deadly attack on worshippers during a church service at the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Kampani Village, Maro, located in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State. At least five persons were killed and several others sustained serious injuries.

A source from the Kaduna State Police Command, who spoke to counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, confirmed that the attack occurred at about 3:30 p.m. on Friday, July 11, 2025, when the gunmen stormed the church premises during a worship gathering.

It was gathered that a Good Samaritan alerted security agencies around 9:20 p.m., prompting the immediate deployment of a combined team of police officers and operatives from other security agencies.

Upon arrival, the security team combed the area and confirmed that five worshippers had been fatally shot. The deceased were later identified as Victor Haruna, Dogara Jatau, Luka Yari, Jesse Dalami, and Bawu John. They were rushed to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel confirmed them dead.

Three other victims—Samuel Aliyu, Philip Dominic, and Jacob Hussaini—sustained gunshot wounds and are currently receiving treatment at a local healthcare facility.

In response to the attack, security agencies have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators, with efforts ongoing to track down and apprehend those responsible for the assault.

As of the time of filing this report, the spokesman for the Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Mansir Hassan, had yet to respond to inquiries regarding the incident.
