Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has commended security agencies for the successful rescue of Justice E.G. Umukoro, a High Court judge, who regained his freedom on Thursday evening after spending 12 days in captivity.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, Governor Diri revealed that the operation followed his directive to security operatives to ensure the judge’s safe release.
The governor gave special recognition to the Department of State Services (DSS) for their relentless pursuit, which forced the kidnappers to abandon their victim and flee.
He assured the public that the fleeing suspects would be tracked down and brought to justice, reaffirming his administration’s zero-tolerance approach to crime and commitment to the safety of all Bayelsa residents.
“Our government remains committed to protecting lives and property. Bayelsa is not a safe haven for criminals. We will continue to strengthen security architecture to ensure the state remains peaceful and secure,” Diri stated.
He further urged residents to cooperate with security agencies and maintain vigilance, adding that public support is critical in the ongoing fight against crime.
Governor Diri also expressed appreciation to the affected community for their solidarity and assistance during the rescue operation, noting that such collective action reinforces the state’s resolve to curb criminal activities.
