Bayelsa Govt Reaffirms Commitment to Transparency, Accountability…Holds N45.47bn in Coffers as of December 2025

The Bayelsa State Government has reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability in the management of public funds, disclosing that the state’s coffers stood at ₦45.478 billion as of December 2025.

The assurance was given by the Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Mrs. Ebiowu Koku-Obiyai, during the state’s monthly transparency briefing covering October, November and December 2025.

Koku-Obiyai said the Douye Diri administration remains focused on prudent financial management while sustaining development across critical sectors of the state’s economy. She highlighted ongoing investments in infrastructure, agriculture, the blue economy and tourism, noting that major projects were receiving priority attention.

Among the projects mentioned were the new stadium at Igbogene and the gas turbine power project, which she said were progressing steadily, with the government meeting its financial obligations to contractors.

The commissioner also disclosed that the state government had acquired two aircraft as part of efforts to establish an aviation hub in Bayelsa. According to her, the initiative is aimed at boosting economic activities, attracting investors and enhancing the state’s appeal as a tourism destination.

She commended the media for what she described as their constructive role in keeping citizens informed about government activities and expressed optimism that the cordial relationship between the state government and the press would continue to deepen.

Meanwhile, the Technical Adviser on Treasury and Accounts to Governor Douye Diri, Mr. Timipre Seipoulo, provided a detailed breakdown of the state’s financial position for the three-month period.

Seipoulo disclosed that Bayelsa recorded a cash balance of ₦45.478 billion in December 2025, after accounting for a deficit of ₦27.95 billion, which was deducted from a carried-forward balance of ₦70.54 billion from November.

According to him, in October 2025, the state recorded total receipts of ₦64.23 billion. After deducting ₦55.13 billion spent on capital and recurrent expenditures, the state recorded a net balance of about ₦9 billion.

For November 2025, total receipts stood at ₦48.84 billion, while ₦51.15 billion was expended on capital and recurrent payments, resulting in a net deficit balance of ₦2.31 billion.

Seipoulo said the balances from the preceding months were carried forward into subsequent months, culminating in the December 2025 balance of ₦45.478 billion.

The Bayelsa State Government said the regular publication of its financial position underscores its resolve to entrench openness, fiscal discipline and public trust in governance.
