Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bayelsa State Council on Wednesday registered a new chapel called United Correspondent Chapel.
Mr Samuel Numonengi, Chairman of the state NUJ, inaugurated and administered the oath of membership to members of the new chapel in Yenagoa.
He charged United Correspondent chapel, to maintain the integrity of the pen profession in the discharge of their responsibility.
He advised the new chairman of United correspondent chapel to be transparent in his dealings with members of the union.
“As you are aware of problems happening in various Chapel in the State, is members not having trust for one and another, disunity, as members of United correspondent chapel, you must speak in one voice to move forward.
“Through out my tenure as chairman, you’re going to enjoy all benefits and privileges in the Nigeria union of Journalist.
“I want the leadership of the chapel to look out for the interest of members,” he said.
Members of the new United Correspondent chapel include: Mr.Akam James, Chairman, Joy Emmanuel ,Vice Chairman, Mr.Chris Mark, Secretary, Mr.Amgbare Ekaunkumo, Treasurer.
In his acceptance speech, Akam James expressed gratitude to the State Chairman for finding them worthy to start their own chapel and assured that members of the chapel would uphold the ethics of the profession.
“You have demonstrated courage to do what is uncommon in giving people a lease of life, to unite, to be together, people of like minds to practice in one state.
“On behalf of myself and other members of this chapel, 100 per cent, we are out for developmental journalism.
He promised to move the chapel to the next level of development and solidify its status as a major stakeholder in the state council of the NUJ.
Other executive members of the chapel include, Mr. Jide Dominic,financial Secretary, Mr.Bassey Williams, assistant Secretary, Mr.Kenechukwu Obiajuru, auditor, Mr. Ebiowei Lawal,Ex-officio .
