The management of Bayelsa Queens Football Club, on Tuesday, unveiled Whyte Ogbonda as the new Head Coach of the female team, with a charge to return the club to its glory days.
Bayelsa State Governor, Sen.Douye Diri, represented by his deputy Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who supervised the unveiling ceremony at the Samson Siasia Stadium , Yenagoa , urged the new coach to bring forth his wealth of experience to transform the team.
Senator Ewhrudjakpo described the decision to appoint the experienced tactician as a strategic move to rejuvenate the team to a more enviable height and to build on their legacy.
According to him, “Our previous coaches did well for us but we felt that is not where we ought to be and that is why we have taken this decision to bring this experienced coach whom we all know his pedigree, so we are ready to compete”.
Commissioner for Sports Development, Bayelsa State, Champion Daniel Igali said the proven track record of Whyte Ogbonda and his ability to foster young talents made him a valuable addition to the club and that their expectation is continental football which he believes coach Whyte will bring to the State.
In his remarks, the newly unveiled coach, Whyte Ogbonda, thanked the Bayelsa State Government for finding him worthy of the appointment, adding that he is confident his team will compete for honours in the Premiership season and other competitions.
“This is my job and I will do what I know how to do best and I promise as we are resuming on the 20th of July, 2024, we will do everything to pick a continental ticket as that is my target”. Whyte added.
On his part, Chairman Pastor Robin Angonimi Apreala said there will be change in the team.
“Now that we have Coach Whyte Ogbonda, I believe there will be a positive change in Bayelsa Queens FC, Coach Whyte is a man of impeccable character and we’re happy to have him in our midst”, Pastor Apreala said.
