Benin monarch advises Edo new CJ against compromise

Benin, Feb. 20, 2020 The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has advised the new Chief Judge (CJ) of Edo, Justice Esther Edigin, to shun compromise and other forms of unethical practices in the discharge of her duties.

The monarch gave the charge when the new CJ led senior members of the bench on a courtesy call on ghe monarch in his palace in Benin on Thursday.

The traditional ruler said since the judiciary was the last hope of common man, it must adhere strictly to fairness, equity and justice.

He charged the chief judge to initiate reforms that would adequately address some challenges hindering judicial processes in the state.

While acknowledging the developmental roles of the judiciary in society, he called on government to provide conducive environment for the judiciary to enable it to efficiently carry out its responsibilities.

Earlier, Edigin told the Oba that she was at the palace to formerly inform him of her assumption of office as the new CJ of the state.

She also solicited prayers from the royal father for her to succeed in office.
