Benue Divine Mandate Donates ₦500,000 to Kaduna Church, Launches 2027 Campaign

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

A political support group for Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, under the aegis of Benue Divine Mandate, has donated ₦500,000 to St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Sabon Tasha, Kaduna, during a thanksgiving service. The group also made smaller donations to the parish choir and other groups.

Speaking during the event, Benue State Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Rev. Dr. Frederick L. Ikyaan, who represented Governor Alia, explained that the Divine Mandate movement was conceived in Kaduna before the 2023 elections to support Alia’s governorship ambition. He said the group has now entered “Phase Two” to consolidate support ahead of the 2027 polls.

He noted that the group, which started with a few people in Kaduna, has grown significantly and mobilized supporters across Benue. He added that the decision to hold thanksgiving at St. Peter’s Catholic Church was symbolic but not exclusive, stressing that other events during the weekend were held in different parishes in the state.

Ikyaan explained that the newly inaugurated Kaduna branch of the group will continue mobilization among Benue indigenes in the state to support Alia’s second-term bid. He assured the church that the governor would not disappoint, noting that his leadership as a priest in government is a test the church must also uphold.

The Chairman of the parish technical committee, Chris Santos Njokwu, praised the Benue people for their resilience despite insecurity challenges, praying for the governor’s re-election. The Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Joshua Achie, also offered prayers for Alia’s success in 2027 and for an end to violent attacks in the state.
