Benue, Enugu Police Commands Strengthen Collaboration to Curb Interstate Crimes

By Isaac Kertyo, Makurdi

The Commissioners of Police in Benue and Enugu States, CP Emenari Ifeanyi and CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, have held a strategic operational meeting aimed at strengthening cooperation between both commands to tackle rising interstate crimes and security threats along their shared borders.

The meeting, held in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, focused on consolidating joint efforts to combat the infiltration of criminal elements and their collaboration with local accomplices within border communities.

In a joint statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officers (PPROs) of both states, DSP Udeme Edet of Benue Command and Daniel Ndukwa of Enugu Command, the commissioners emphasized the need for enhanced intelligence sharing, coordinated operations, and resource pooling to improve security outcomes in the region.

“The focus areas of this renewed collaboration include Ado, Ogbadibo, and Okpokwu Local Government Areas of Benue State, as well as Igbo-Eze North, Isi-Uzo, and Udenu Local Government Areas of Enugu State,” the statement said.

The communiqué further revealed that the meeting was attended by senior operational officers from both commands and would be held regularly to sustain the joint security initiative.

According to the statement, recent collaborative efforts between the two commands have led to the arrest of several criminal suspects operating across state lines, the rescue of kidnapped victims, and the recovery of stolen vehicles, laptops, mobile phones, and other items.

The Commissioners reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace and security through proactive policing, community engagement, and timely intelligence-driven operations to dismantle criminal networks operating within and across their jurisdictions.
