Benue state governor rev fr hyacinth alia, has disclosed that plans have reached an advanced stage for benue state government to domesticate the national policy on the internally displaced persons, idps.
The governor made this disclosure through the acting executive secretary, benue state emergency management agency, bsema, mr james iorpuu, during the meeting on durable solutions, peace/stability and development held in abuja.
According to the governor, the primary objective of the policy is to strengthen institutional mechanisms and frameworks to uphold the right, dignity and wellbeing of vulnerable populations as well as mitigate the impact of internal displacement and achieve durable solutions in nigeria.
In a statement issued by the information officer of bsema, tema ager, the governor expressed government’s commitment towards providing durable solutions for the idps in benue state.
He maintained that benue’s proactive approach aligns with the united nations high commissioner for refugees’ agenda and global imperative to effectively address displacement challenges.
