The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Benue State Council, Comrade Bemdoo Ugber, has extended warm felicitations to Chief Solomon Iorpev on his inauguration as Commissioner in charge of the Ministry of Information and Orientation by Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia.
Chief Iorpev, until his appointment as commissioner, was the Technical Adviser to the Benue State Governor on Media Publicity and Strategic Communication, and Director General in charge of Signage and Signposts.
NUJ chairman hails appointment
In a congratulatory message to the new commissioner, the NUJ chairman described the appointment as well deserved and expressed confidence in the appointee’s ability to discharge his responsibilities very well. He maintained that as a media icon, Chief Iorpev will bring his wealth of experience to bear on his assignment.
“Your appointment to this strategic ministry is not only well deserved but also a classic case of placing a round peg in a round hole. As a tested, trusted and accomplished media icon, your wealth of experience and profound understanding of the media industry, intellectual depth and unwavering commitment to public service eminently qualify you for this important responsibility.
“The media community in Benue State is deeply excited and overwhelmingly optimistic about your appointment. Your emergence has rekindled confidence that the Ministry of Information and Orientation will benefit from purposeful, innovative and professional leadership capable of further strengthening the vital bridge between the government and the people.”
Call for professional engagement
The NUJ chairman stressed that effective information management, responsible communication and strategic public orientation are indispensable to good governance. He called for deepening professional engagement with the media towards effectively projecting the policies, programmes and achievements of the Alia administration.
“As you assume this new responsibility, be assured that the NUJ, Benue State Council will provide the necessary support, cooperation and professional partnership required to enable you succeed in this important assignment,” he further stated.
