Benue SEC Approves Land For Military Barracks, Schools, Others

Benue State Executive Council (SEC) has approved a land measuring one hundred and fifty hectres located opposite the Alfred Akawe Torkula Polytechnic, Makurdi for the construction of a Navel Barracks, schools and hospital among other facilities.

Governor of Benue State, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia disclosed this while briefing Journalists on Friday after the State Executive Council, explaining that council considered the benefits that are attached to the facilities if they are situated in the state.

The Governor who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula maintained that apart from the issue of security and facilities, the state will benefit maximally from the economic aspect of it.

“Exco approved a land measuring one hundred and fifty hectres located opposite the Alfred Akawe Torkula Polytechnic, Makurdi. That land is approved for the Navy to establish a barracks, schools and hospital and other facilities. It is going to be a Naval Base, you understand that you have the Army 72, you have NASME, you have Air Force Base and so you are now going to have a Naval Base in the state.

Yes there are other formations here, and of course they are doing their best but we can’t stop asking for more. Council deliberated and took costly look at the benefits that are attached to these facilities if they are situated in our state.”

In another development, SEC approved the sum of N9.2 billion for the construction of sixteen number township roads in the Makurdi Metropolis to ease movement.

“Due to current economic reality, council upgraded the approval limit for the governor from fifty million naira to two hundred and fifty million naira. Government had approved fifty million naira in 2003 as approving limit for the governor.”
