The Federal Government’s plan to introduce Pulaku Policy towards ending Farmers/Herder’s crises has hit the rocks, as the Benue State socio cultural organizations, Tiv, Idoma and Igede, have rejected the policy.
The Chairman, Benue State socio cultural organizations, CP Iorbee Ihyagh retired, who disclosed this while briefing Journalists in Makurdi, explained that it was a ploy by the Federal Government to replace Ruga and Cattle Colony initiated by the then Buhari’s administration with Pulaku.
Ihyagh who is the President General of Tiv socio cultural organization world wide, Implored the Federal Government not to include Benue State in its implementation process, stating that government should protect the general interest of all Nigerians, but not a select few.
Piqued by the lukewarm attitude of the Federal Government to the plight of the Internally Displaced Persons whom he said have stayed in the camps for over ten years, the Chairman, pointed out that the Federal Government should resettle them back to their ancestral homes to enable them continue their farming activities.
According to Mr Ihyagh, the continued attacks on farmers in the state which have Displaced many, have not only caused food shortage, but properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed, urging the Federal Government to take proactive measures towards tackling insecurity in the county.
He enjoined the Federal Government to embrace the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law, which he said remains the best global practice regarding animal husbandry.
