The Benue Internal Revenue Service, BIRS, has collaborated with the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission, BESIEC, to ensure a successful local government elections in the state.
Acting Executive Chairman of BIRS, Mr Emmanuel Agema stated this when he led other management staff of the service on a courtesy visit to the Chairman of BESIEC, Barr Terlumun Tombowua, at the commission’s headquarters in Makurdi.
In a statement by the Media Assistant to Mr Agema, Jacinta Bernard said that both BIRS and BESIEC are government collecting agencies, reiterating the importance of the aforementioned organizations to collaborate in order to improve the revenue profile of the state.
The Chairman, emphasized the role of Benue Internal Revenue Service in the electioneering process, stressing that since the service is empowered by law to issue tax clearance certificates to aspirations, it’s also important for BIRS to screen and cross check tax clearance certificates presented by aspirants.
Mr Agema, promised to collaborate with the commission to ensure a transparent, hitch free, fair and acceptable local government elections which is slated to hold this year.
Responding, the Chairman, of BESIEC, Barr Tombowua, who expressed delight over the visit, assured that his office would collaborate with BIRS to ensure the smooth conduct of the local government elections in the state.
