By Joyce Remi-Babayeju

The Minister Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, has warned that form of blackmail can stop his administration from demolishing Ruga Shanties, posing threats of insecurity in Abuja.

Wike issued this warning on Sunday night during an inspection of the Ruga settlement along the Kukuaba community in Wuye.
He particularly warned that he will not succumb to the protests of those who have called for his removal from office, adding that he will not stop doing the right thing.

The FCT Minister made this known as a group of illegal settlers in the area had come out to cheer him during the evening inspection.

He further warned that nobody should raise any structure again in the area after the recent demolition, as he admonished them to raise a five-man representative to meet with the FCTA ad hoc committee for onward transmission of their recommendations to the government.

Wike also set up a seven-man committee of security agencies, the Director of Lands and Director, Development Control to interface with the five men representing the Ruga people to make recommendations for the attention if government.

A representative of the settlers, Abba Gary, appealed to the minister to help cushion the suffering which the demolition has brought on the people in addition to the harsh economy.

Gary acknowledged that the FCT Administration has carried demolished Ruga Shanties twenty-two times in the past thirty years.

Recall that the FCT Administration demolished the Ruga shanty community on Friday.
