BoT declares meeting with NASS caucus peaceful amid PDP crisis

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), Adolphus Wabara, has described the meeting with the party’s National Assembly caucus as peaceful, amid ongoing internal crises within the party.

Speaking to reporters in Abuja on Thursday after the meeting, the former Senate President said, “We met with the National Caucus, and as you can see, the meeting was peaceful.”

The PDP has been grappling with internal conflicts since the lead-up to the 2023 elections. Party members have criticized Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, for failing to implement necessary reforms to address the party’s challenges.

Tensions escalated recently, with disagreements between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara; and the PDP Governors Forum over the party’s leadership structure.

Earlier this week, BoT Chairman Wabara, Secretary Senator Ahmed Makarfi, and other BoT members held a closed-door meeting with Wike in Abuja. This was followed by another meeting with Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Bala Mohammed, in Bauchi.

Thursday’s meeting with the National Assembly Caucus took place at the PDP office, Legacy House, in Abuja. Attendees included prominent figures such as House Minority Leader Hon. Chinda Kingsley, Senate Deputy Minority Leader Senator Lere Oyewumi, House of Representatives Minority Whip Hon. Ali Isa JC, and Hon. Pastor Ojema Ojotu.

The BoT reportedly called the meeting to gauge the mood of the PDP caucus in the National Assembly, promote calm, and provide recommendations for resolving the party’s internal disputes.
