BREAKING: Afghanistan closes restaurants, pools, other venues over coronavirus

Afghanistan has ordered the closure of restaurants, swimming pools, baths and sports complexes as a precaution against coronavirus, the country’s Interior Ministry announced on Wednesday.

In addition, it said all gatherings are banned until further notice without providing any other details.

People have been urged to report violations to the Police through a hotline.

On Tuesday, the Hajj and Religious Ministry called on people to pray at homes and avoid holding mourning ceremonies at mosques.

Earlier, the government postponed the launch of a new school year for one month.

The traditional Nowruz ceremonies to mark the Persian New Year were also cancelled.

The country has 22 confirmed cases of COVID-19, all of them imported from its neighbour Iran.
