The House of Representatives has taken a significant step towards probing officials of Federal Government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) allegedly involved in certificate racketeering with Nigerian students.
This decision came after the adoption of a motion during Wednesday’s session, presented by Abubakar Fulata, the representative for Birniwa/Guri/Kiri-Kasamma Federal Constituency of Jigawa State.
The motion was prompted by an incident in December 2022 when a Nigerian journalist, Umar Audu, obtained a degree from a university in Cotonou, Benin Republic, within six weeks. Subsequently, Audu participated in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme, raising concerns about the integrity of the education system.
Fulata’s motion urged the House to identify officials of MDAs and students involved in such activities over the past decade. This move aims to address the alleged certificate racketeering syndicate and its impact on the education sector.
Further details on the investigation are expected to emerge in due course.
