In a swift response to the Sunday bombing incident in a village in Kaduna State, protesters gathered at the National Assembly premises in Abuja on Wednesday.
Occupying the entrance gate for over two hours, the demonstrators called for justice for the victims and openly challenged the Minister of Defence, Abubakar Badaru, urging him to either fulfill his responsibilities or step down.
The unintended airstrike, aimed at flushing out terrorists, tragically hit civilians during a religious celebration at Tudun Biri on Sunday night. The death toll has reportedly surged to 120, as confirmed by officials from Amnesty International who visited the affected villages.
Addressing the press, Nasir Ishaku, the leader of the protesters representing the National Youth Council of Nigeria, North West Zone, and Arewa Youth Movement, emphasized the urgent need for justice for the victims.
He stated, “Nigeria is not well because Nigerians are being killed day by day. Security situation in the country keeps deteriorating since his (Badaru) inception as Minister of Defence… These are clear indications that the minister is incompetent to handle that sensitive ministry. Therefore, he should wake up to his responsibilities or resign.”
