A 16-member legislative council of Quan Pan local government council in Plateau State this afternoon impeached the embattled chairman of the council, Isaac Kwalu.
Among several grounds, the councilors accused the impeached chairman of failure to conven Security Council meetings , refusal to make counterpart contribution to the State University in Bokkos, diversion of council funds, and respect of due process in the award of contracts.
It was gathered that the embattled former chairman yesterday secured interim injunction from a High Court in Jos against his suspension from office earlier in June this year. However, before the order could be served on all the relevant authorities today, in what observers of the exercise described as “photo finish”, the councilors had made the impeachment fait accompli.
The Chairman of Quan Pan along with that of Kanam local government council was suspended from office last June by a coerced order of the State House of Assembly which accused the duo of insubordination and failure to carry out directives of the House members.
Independent sources familiar with goings on in the Plateau South senatorial district however said the earlier suspension and eventual impeachment of Isaac Kwalu as chairman of Quan Pan is sheer political framing not unconnected with the desperation of Governor Lalong to influence the outcome of the anticipated Plateau South Senate bye-election.
