Breast feeding week: Effective growth of babies starts from the breastfeeding mothers, Dr. Ogunkunle

A paediatric consultant with the department of pediatric of the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH), Lafia Doctor Toufick Ogunkunle has cautioned breast feeding mothers in Nasarawa to imbibe the courage of breast feeding their child with their natural Milk to enhance effective growth of the child.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Sun Correspondent in his office on Wednesday morning at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital Lafia explaining that the essence of the week is to sensitize breast feeding mothers to be proactive in breastfeeding their babies to promote effective growth of the child.

Doctor Toufick also emphasized on the value of breastfeeding to mothers as well as children adding that the first six months should be exclusive breastfeeding and subsequently could supplemented breastfeeding measures for at least one year or two.

He however, cautioned women to always have time for their babies towards ensuring the effective growth and general well being of the child.

“feeding them with their Natural Milk will add value to their brain and their health status.”

“some mothers usually start with water at the first stage of feeding the baby which he said might affect the child indirectly.”

Also speaking to Daybreak Correspondent, Blessing Ene who just gave birth three days back explained her experience of child birth and encourage mothers to always remember the pains they went through during delivery and ensure they breast feed their children as described by the specialist Doctor.

She said that “I Just gave birth day before yesterday I started with my breast milk and i will do it regularly unril my child come of aga because i want my child to be healthy and strong. She said.”

Recall that the World Breastfeeding week is an annual celebration, which is normally celebrated in more than one hundred and twenty (120) countries in the world with the theme of this year as Protect Breastfeed : A Shared Responsibility.
