BSU VC Warns Against Criminal Gangs, Cultism As Varsity Matriculates 8000 Students

The Vice Chancellor, Benue State University (BSU), Makurdi, Professor Tor Joe Iorapuu, has cautioned matriculating students of the institution against social vices such as criminal gangs and cultism to enable them acquire good degrees as the institution matriculated over 8000 students.

Professor Iorapuu gave this warning on the occasion of the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 combined matriculation of ceremony of the university held at the convocation square on Friday.

“We urge you to report anyone or group that makes overtues to you to join any unwholesome society to the Dean of Students or Chief Security Officer who will discreetly handle the situation without endangering your security.”

The Vice Chancellor, equally charged the students to be very concious of the dress code while studying in university. He admonished both the female and male students to note that the institution is a knowledge based environment and not a social park.

Professor Iorapuu, Implored the undergraduates to distance themselves from examination misconduct, warning that Benue State University view examination misconduct with severe seriousness. He added that the consequences are grave on the offender.

” He continued: ” My dear matriculating students, you have been through the orientation program where professionals in various disciplines gave you tips on how to conduct yourselves on campus and graduate with good degrees.

Today’s event is significant in two dimensions, firstly for the first time in the history of this university, we are combining admissions for two years namely, 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE). Secondly, this occasion is taking place within the period the university is marking 30th anniversary.”

Professor Iorapuu, called on parents to consider the education of their wards as a sacred duty, no matter the cost, stressing that they should collaborate with the management and staff to make the institution a better place towards positive transportation of the children.

” In the same vein, we implore you to join us in appreciating the Government of Benue State for her sustained investment in the development of the university”, the Vice Chancellor counseled.
