Buhari expresses confidence that Tinubu will maintain the momentum of his administration.

 

Speaking at the Naval Dockyard Limited in Victoria Island, Lagos, during the Presidential Fleet Review in 2023, President Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) expressed his trust in Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the incoming President, to uphold the pace set by his administration.President Buhari assured that the incoming administration, led by President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu, would uphold the existing relationship with the Nigerian Navy by offering timely support when needed. He expressed confidence that the forthcoming administration would maintain the current momentum set by his own government in assisting the Navy in executing their assigned duties. The President commended the remarkable combat demonstrations conducted by the Nigerian Navy Special Boat Service, which showcased the effective collaboration between the Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian Air Force.In terms of enhancing the Nigerian Navy’s capabilities to safeguard the country’s maritime environment and utilize its abundant resources for the socio-economic progress of Nigeria, President Buhari stated his expectation for the demonstrated prowess to materialize. He highlighted the administration’s achievements in revitalizing the Navy Fleet over the past seven years, which included the procurement of 20 significant vessels such as offshore patrol vessels, landing ship transports, hydrographic survey vessels, seaward defense boats, and helicopters. Additionally, the acquisition encompassed over 300 inshore patrol vessels and assault craft.

Nonetheless, Buhari expressed his optimism that under Tinubu’s leadership, the Navy would continue to procure new assets, bolster shipbuilding activities for export purposes, foster local production, intensify the fight against piracy, and address the challenges associated with crude oil theft within Nigeria’s maritime territory.

In conclusion, as his term concludes on May 29, 2023, the President extended his well-wishes to the Navy. He conveyed his utmost support to protect Nigeria’s maritime domain and contribute to the nation’s economic prosperity. Buhari concluded by expressing his hope for favorable winds and a promising future, emphasizing unity and extending his blessings to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
