CALABAR COMMUTERS SEEK ALTERNATIVE ROUTE TO AKWA IBOM

Following the hiccup experienced by road users of Calabar, Odukpani, Itu Ikot Ekpene Federal High way, some commuters in Calabar have chosen the Calabar – Oron water way for easy movement.

Daybreak checks revealed that the water way is the shorter route to people going to places like Oron, Eket and Uyo the Capital of Akwa Ibom.

The speed boat leaves Calabar beach every 6:00am and it’s a one hour cruise to Oron beach in Akwa Ibom State.

According to the Manager Federal Inland Waterways, Donald Okon, “Now that we have this problem on our highway, we thank commuters for finding an easy means of getting to their various destination by patronizing the boat service and advised the commuters to adhere to the rules of the Maritime Laws, so that there will not be any lost of lives and properties.”

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has engaged five more agencies, the Federal Road Safety Corp among others to intensified the maintenance of the road, in other to make it usable especially during this yuletide season.

Julius Berger, the construction giant awarded the job for the road construction is yet to start work apparently due to no release of fund by the Federal Government.
