CCECC continues construction despite heavy rain

By Jennifer Y Omiloli

The heavy rains in the Lagos region of the ongoing construction of a new railway line between Lagos and Ibadan did not stop the contractor managing the task, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), from pursuing its work.

On Friday, on the construction site from Ebute-Meta to Iju railway corridor, the CCECC workers were seen excavating, relocating water and gas pipelines, building drains, bridges, and erecting new level crossings and train stations.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation has recently suspended the operation of intra- and inter-city narrow gauge trains (Lagos-Ijoko, Lagos-Apapa and Lagos-Kano) in order to accelerate the speed of work and avoid any sort of risk.

Abdulraouf Akinwoye, media consultant at the CCECC, who briefed some journalists around the area of ongoing work from Ebute-Meta to Iju, said, “We are committed to providing Nigerians with a world-class quality gage railway line.”

According to him, by applying its technical expertise and technological know-how, the contractor is in full control of many of the burdens previously inhibiting construction work in the Lagos-Iju area.
