The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Sani Musa, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policy on ongoing inherited projects across the country, stating that they will benefit the people at all levels.
In a press statement he personally signed and issued to newsmen, Senator Musa highlighted this commendation following a meeting between the Minister of Works, stakeholders, and contractors. He added that Tinubu’s focus on infrastructure would soon be realized.
Senator Musa also praised the Minister of Works, David Umahi, for his role in the success of Tinubu’s agenda on project execution, emphasizing that the efforts made have been significant across various sectors.
“I commend the Honourable Minister of Works, Senator Engineer David Umahi, CON, FNSE, for his dedication to duty and exemplary leadership in steering the Federal Ministry of Works toward delivering on the National Road Master Plan as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,” said Senator Musa.
The Honourable Minister demonstrated this commitment when he convened a stakeholder meeting in his office in Abuja to discuss issues impeding the timely completion of 10 ongoing federal road projects in various parts of Niger State.
Senator Musa continued, “I had the privilege of leading members of the National Assembly from Niger State as part of the team alongside the Governor of Niger State, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Umar Bago. I was highly impressed by the presentation made by the Governor, where he outlined the status of each road project across the state. He also called on the Minister to revoke the contract for the Minna-Suleja Road project, which was first awarded in 2010.”
Senator Musa expressed his appreciation for the Minister’s proactive and decisive steps in addressing the issues raised, including invoking relevant sections of the law to revoke non-performing contracts and reprimanding contractors and ministry staff who had compromised their positions in managing road contracts.
“It is quite impressive that the Minister was prepared to take strong action against anyone attempting to sabotage the Renewed Hope Agenda in the Federal Ministry of Works. He made it clear that anyone found wanting would face consequences and be reported to the EFCC where necessary,” he added.
“That is the hallmark of commitment and dedication to duty. Engineer David Umahi is truly a round peg in a round hole, and I commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing him as the Honourable Minister of Works.”
The people of Niger State are pleased to note that the Minister has directed the revocation, redesigning, and re-awarding of the Dualization of the Suleja-Lambatta-Minna (Phase 1 & 2) project. He has also instructed the contractor handling the Reconstruction of Bida-Lapai-Lambatta Road to return to the site and begin work from the Bida-Lapai axis, as requested by Governor Bago. Additionally, the Minister assured that he would seek additional funds for the Rehabilitation of the Mokwa-Makera-Tegina road project in the 2025 budget.
Senator Musa also emphasized, “I must equally commend the remarkable sense of responsibility and commitment shown by the hardworking Governor of Niger State, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Umar Bago, who refuses to sit idly by while federal road projects in the state suffer neglect and substandard work to the detriment of the people.”
He called on all governors to emulate Governor Bago by engaging with federal contractors in their states to ensure value for money and to support President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for a better Nigeria.
