The FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike has called on residents to challenge and hold the government accountable on what they are doing the peoples tax money.

Wike gave this charge on Monday at the eight flag – off of road projects within the FCT Area Councils.

The minister flagged off the upgrading of the 18 Km War College/ Army Checkpoint and other Ancillary Road in Ushaffa in Bwari Area CounciI.

The FCT Minister said that because citizens have done their part by paying tax, then government need to do its part.

When you do your part and government does not do its part, then you can ask questions. What are you doing with all the taxes we are paying. We will tell you what we have done and what we will continue to do with your money because it is your right.”

“I said that people should hold those they have elected accountable”, let the people hold us accountable, this is not propaganda, he stressed.

The minister said that initially he was skeptical about awarding the project to a local contractor, because of what most of them do after collecting money, but he decided to do the flag – off to see where the road leads to.

Mr. President has instructed us to empower indigenous contractors who are shown capacity who are willing to work. See what the President is doing in the Area Councils in just one year and seven months, Wike said.

Wike further disclosed that President Tinubu has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with the Chinese Company to provide drinking water to the people in the area councils.

“As far as this administration is concerned, by the time this administration will finish in 2027, what you will see in Abuja will surprise you. The Renewed Hope Agenda is real.”

The Minister of State for FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud stated that the upgrading of the War College/Army Check Point and these vital ancillary roads will not only facilitate transportation but also stimulate economic growth and development in the territory.

Coordinator Satellite Towns
Development Department, Hon. Zulukiflu Abudulkadri, in his project overview said that the project is a turning point in our ongoing efforts to improve infrastructural development, ease movement of goods and services and transform the living condition of Ushaffa and Bwari residents.
He expressed his appreciation to Barr. Wike, for his commitment and dedication to the growth of the Satellite Towns and Area Councils.

“It is commendable on how committed you are to making our people’s lives better, he noted.
