Children’s Day: Anambra First Lady Celebrates with Orphanage Home Children

Must read

Nonye Soludo, the wife of the Anambra State Governor, has called for improved welfare, love, and kindness towards children across Nigeria to give them a sense of belonging and hope for a bright future.

Soludo made this appeal during her visit to the Model Community Children Home in Awka on Sunday, as part of the activities marking this year’s Children’s Day celebration. She emphasized that children, especially those in orphanages, need and expect love, care, and compassion during this period.

During her visit, Soludo personally cooked and distributed meals to the children and donated relief items, including cash. Speaking to journalists after the celebration, she highlighted the importance of caring for children, noting that they are the future of the country and should be nurtured and protected regardless of their family background.

“Children’s Day is a significant period to give children a sense of belonging and assure them that their future is bright. They are the future of the nation and need to be groomed with utmost care and protection, irrespective of family background,” Soludo said. “We are here today to celebrate with them, to show them they are loved and not forgotten. By cooking and serving meals, we demonstrate motherly love.”

She added that beyond the celebration, Children’s Day raises awareness about issues affecting children and helps society appreciate their importance. “It is a time to express our love and care for their welfare,” she said.

Soludo also mentioned that governments at all levels are intensifying efforts to provide safety measures for children through various humanitarian programs. She urged everyone to show love to children by creating safe and conducive environments where they can learn and grow with a strong moral foundation.

Rev. Sister Philomena Akuchukwu, Coordinator of Model Community Children’s Home Awka, expressed gratitude to Mrs. Soludo, describing her as a caring and godly mother. She pledged the orphanage’s continued prayers for a better Anambra and the successful re-election of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

The celebration featured cooking, serving of meals, cutting of the Children’s Day cake, games, and other presentations by the children, witnessed by the governor’s wife and her entourage.
