Chima Udoye, known for his onstage charisma and vocal dexterity, has emerged as the winner of the ninth season of Nigerian Idol. The finale, held on Sunday, July 14, 2024, concluded months of intense competition among Nigeria’s top performers and vocalists.
The live finale kicked off with the show’s top 10 contestants performing John Legend’s “Glory,” followed by performances from past winners. Progress, the winner of Nigerian Idol Season 7, performed with the Bigi Idol winner, and Victory Gbakara, the Season 8 winner, showcased an original song written before his season’s finale. The night featured guest performances by Chike, Simi, and the top three finalists, culminating in Chima’s victory.
Chima’s captivating stage presence and exceptional vocal skills consistently impressed the judges – 9ice, Omawumi, and Ric Hassani. Omawumi noted during the finale that Chima’s biggest competition was himself, highlighting his remarkable journey on the show.
Specializing in jazz and soul music, Chima aimed to use the Nigerian Idol platform to inspire others and showcase his vocal prowess. His dedication and talent earned him the top spot after 12 weeks of competition.
